Pallet Stacking: A Guide

Construction & Contractors Blog

There's no reason why you cannot work effectively on a construction site if you don't have the right equipment and safety precautions. One thing is very clear: jobs can often be hazardous and dangerous. That's why it pays to take precautions necessary to ensure your personal safety and your co-workers. If you're involved in loading or unloading pallets on a construction site, there are certain safety precautions you should take to avoid workplace accidents.

Read on for tips on how to stack pallets safely and get the most out of your next project.

Wear safety boots

There is no substitute for proper footwear. Icy ground, splinters and even jagged nails can put workers at risk. That's why it's important to wear steel toe-capped boots that provide adequate ankle support.

Hook it up

It's also important to use hooks well before stacking pallets and before loading or unloading them. Make sure that the hook is sturdy enough to support the weight of the pallet, but not too sturdy that it becomes difficult to manoeuvre or use.

Use a pallet jack

A pallet jack, also known as a hand truck, will make your workload lighter. It will help you move heavy loads around the workplace. If you have to move empty pallets by hand, consider investing in a pair of weightlifting gloves to help protect your hands from blisters and splinters.

Follow the rules of the road

Always follow proper lifting procedures, and don't bounce or twist your body while lifting or moving loads. Get a pallet lifter to help you lift heavy loads. If you don't have one on-site, hire one in for the day. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Wrap it up

While some commercial carriers are required to have pallets wrapped in sturdy straps or shrink-wrap, it's generally not recommended that you do so yourself unless there is no other option. Check with your work supervisor before making the assumption that wrapping pallets is unnecessary.

Be safe

Stacking pallets is an integral part of construction projects, especially in areas where pallet stacking is required for delivery. With safety in mind and your best interests at heart, don't be afraid to get involved in spreading the word about pallet stacking safety. It's an easy way to earn some extra money, while simultaneously helping to protect your well-being.

Compelling and Creative Commentary on Construction and Contractors: A Blog

Welcome! My name is Frances, and this is my first blog. Whether you found me through a Google search or were passed my link by a friend, I am so glad you found my blog. I plan to fill it with a range of commentary on the world of contracting and construction work, and I hope that you find my ideas compelling and creative. I am a dog trainer, but I have always loved the world of construction. I tend to work a lot on the weekends and evenings, when my clients are off work. As a result, I have a lot of time to write during the day, and I decided to create this blog. Thank you for reading.
